Kurzinformation

In this second edition of Nuclear Hepatology: A Textbook of Hepatobiliary Disease, the authors build on the success of the first edition by revising the contents so as to encompass all of the most recent developments in the field. The result is a comprehensive, up-to-date book that will serve as a ready reference and a clinical and procedural guide for all who care for patients with hepatobiliary diseases. The authors, both of whom are nuclear medicine physicians, present nuclear hepatobiliary imaging techniques in the context of the many other possible diagnostic studies, thereby acquainting the reader with the role of these procedures.

The book is organized into 13 chapters. Introductory chapters cover the morphology and microstructure of the hepatobiliary system and discuss liver and spleen function. The important imaging agents are then reviewed in turn. Subsequent chapters describe the imaging of liver and spleen morphology and procedures used to quantify hepatobiliary function, with particular attention to the gallbladder and the sphincter of Oddi. The remaining chapters address intra- and extrahepatic cholestasis, diseases of the gallbladder, biliary dyskinesia, hepatobiliary diseases in infants and children, liver malignancies, and liver transplantation. Throughout, care is taken to maintain a clear clinical focus and to emphasize the importance of integrating information on morphology and quantitative physiology as the basis for diagnosis. Each of the chapters is well illustrated and concludes with a detailed reference list. This book will prove invaluable not only to nuclear medicine physicians but also to practitioners of radiology, internal medicine, pediatrics, gastroenterology, hepatology, primary care, general surgery, and liver transplantation surgery.
